Bringing home a new baby is such a sweet, beautiful season… and also a little chaotic. There are diapers everywhere, someone probably needs a snack, and if you already have little ones, you’re somehow trying to keep everyone happy while running on very little sleep.

So the idea of loading everyone into the car, remembering the diaper bag, making sure everyone is dressed, getting out the door on time and then trying to convince a toddler to cooperate for photos can feel like a LOT.

This is one of the reasons I love in-home newborn photography so much.

You don't have to pack everyone up and leave the house. I come to you.

And honestly? Sometimes your home is the perfect place to document this season.

Your kids get to be themselves

One of my favorite things about photographing families at home is seeing little personalities come out.

Your toddler can play with their favorite toys, climb on the couch, snuggle with Mom, show me their favorite stuffed animal or take a little break when they need one. They don't have to walk into an unfamiliar space and immediately be expected to “perform” for the camera.

They're home.

They're comfortable.

And that usually means I get to photograph the real them.

The silly faces. The big sibling cuddles. The wild toddler hair. The way they want to hold the baby's tiny hand. All of those little things that you may not realize you'll miss someday.

you don't have to have a picture perfect home

Please don't stress about cleaning your entire house before I arrive.

We aren't photographing every room.

I'll look for the spaces with the best natural light and we can keep things simple. Sometimes that's your bedroom, the nursery, the living room or even just a cozy little corner by a window.

Your home doesn't need to look like a magazine. It's where your family lives, and I actually love incorporating those familiar spaces into your photographs.

Years from now, you'll be able to look back and remember more than what your baby looked like.

You'll remember where you were.

The nursery you carefully put together. The bed where you spent countless nights feeding your baby. The couch where your toddler loved to snuggle. The little details of the home your family brought your baby into.

and mom gets to stay home

This might be my favorite part.

You can wake up, get ready, feed the baby, make yourself a coffee and take a breath.

No rushing everyone out the door.

No worrying about forgetting something.

No trying to get a tired toddler into the car.

And if baby needs to eat, needs a diaper change or needs a little extra soothing during our session? That's completely fine.

We have time.

Newborn sessions don't need to feel rushed.

They can be relaxed, slow and centered around your family exactly as you are right now.

If you're expecting a new baby and already have little ones at home, an in-home newborn session may be one of the easiest ways to document this chapter.

I offer in-home newborn photography throughout Northwest Indiana, Chicago and Southwest Michigan, and I'd love to come to you and document your family in the place where this new chapter is actually unfolding.

Because someday, these photographs won't just show you how tiny your baby was.

They'll remind you what home felt like when your family became a little bigger.
